When passion is a criterion, Ahunanya Obinna name comes to mind. At a very young age, Obinna had a lot of ideas to actualize. Dreaming to be an architect, he also was conscious of fashion. We have read different stories of techies that motivate us but I feel Obinna is coming from another dimension.
Journey to the dream for Ahunanya Obinna
He is a Geophysics degree holder from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Obinna’s dream of creating amazing structures as a young kid took a sharp shift. As a Geophtsicsit, he was more involved in how nature combines with matter and scientific information. Obinna first had the opportunity to interact with data collection, data cleaning and understands the importance of accuracy. He believes one should have the ability to learn fast to excel which can be a result of his educational background.
Obinna first professional highlight was in 2010 when he took up a customer care consultant role at Airtel Nigeria. In 2014, he gave a shot into the banking sector. As a personal banking officer, Obinna further has a relationship with data. He balances the management with advising and coordination. After 3 years and some months at the then Diamond Bank, he joined Afrilab for a year. Every data analyst has a similar push into their work story. The sector is less than 12 years since it became viral and we have read people switching into the field. Obinna’s story is no different but his past record made him build for the task ahead.
Ahunanya Obinna as a Data Analyst
Many companies in Nigeria do not have proper knowledge of data analysis. For those that have, it has transformed their businesses and increased profit made. In June 2018, Obinna’s Tukio Konsult story began. Expectations are high for any data analyst and he kept the ball rolling. From analysis to data cleaning to data collection and interpretation, Obinna was always up for it. The in-depth knowledge of data analysis is known from thinking for the raw facts to give amazing solutions. With strong eyes on Artificial Intelligence (AI), we should expect more than just a predictive model from Obinna in the coming years.
What else should I know about Ahunanya Obinna?
To be honest, a lot to learn from him but we will like to inspire you today with some. Like a game of chess, if your next move can be known then you might not win the game. Obinna is a lover of chess, one of the most popular and brainy board games. As a smart champ, he learnt most of what he knows today virtually and took on physical challenges to get better. It is well known that you learn more by facing challenges than just learning.
Viewing technology to be a smart mind role has made a lot of people miss out on the new wave. Obinna believes people need to change their views and adopt technology both as a job role and solution to our problem. The wide gender gap was also acknowledged by him but he’s positive that will mend up with campaigns addressing that. At Techtrend Africa, we are passionate about more ladies in tech and we want to see them excel.
Finally,
Work and personal life can flow with boundaries made. Obinna has used this means to create a good work-life balance. Data analysts get questions around data source, the credibility of result and accuracy of the model. Obinna believes these are constructive words that push individuals to do more.
Starting any phase in life can be very tiring and frustrating. Obinna felt like giving up after running into some initial blocks but he gave himself the push to keep going. Imagine the energy put in learning, he had some set back after some interviewing processes in which he thought he came near to selection. About Africa technology, he said it would play a critical role in global transformation. These will be achieved by creating the leverage for techies to plug disruptive solutions that would improve how things are done.
From reading SQL and phyton books to dreaming about disrupting the AI sector, truly anything is possible if you believe. Probably Obinna will be joining us for a table tennis competition.
See you all next time!
