Ajiboye Mercy – The Opportunist
Mercy Ajiboye is a strategic thinker, excellent learner and passionate change maker. She is a first-class graduate of agriculture from Obafemi Awolowo University. Wow, you sef shocked! While an undergraduate, Mercy was just a nerd who spends her free time volunteering. You are curious about how she became a techie? Six months prior to graduation, she joined Treford as a program intern. There, mercy was responsible for getting participants into Treford’s programmes and ensuring they have a worthwhile experience. After that, she was supposed to go for NYSC in 2020 but Covid-19 happened. Mercy thought “would I just go home and whirl away my time doing nothing”? This led to her application for the BMGA fellowship programme. She learned major life/ workplace coping skills like emotional intelligence, business etiquette, communication and negotiation.
What better role would Mercy have performed if not for Program Management! Throughout her stay at home, she keeps upskilling through different courses. Amazingly, she got a job she didn’t even apply to in less than two months. Mercy was still at NYSC camp when all these happened. A success story indeed! Mercy had applied for so many opportunities before which she didn’t get. The job would be such a heart-melting surprise to her.
Mercy knows the importance of mentorship and how much it can impact her journey. She participated as a product manager mentee in a three months mentorship programme with Black Valley. Mercy is currently a mentor at Ladies Do Tech, a non-profit organization committed to helping females create amazing solutions. Additionally, she is presently the Programme Associate of Decagon. What an impressive profile!
Mercy Ajiboye’s Perspectives
Mercy Ajiboye is an amazing personality who identifies Africa’s potential to become a pivotal element in the tech field. She has the privilege of working with the first female blockchain engineer in Nigeria. To Mercy, this indicates the gender margin present in the field. With her experience working with an ed-tech company, the statistics of their applicant reveal that female inclusion is low. She is optimistic that the gap is closing up as more females are now participating in tech. Mercy asserts there is a need for a profound tech impact in the agriculture and health sector.
The ability to learn new kinds of stuff and communicate effectively is key. Mercy believes that one can be successful in tech without having a tech background. She is a proud example, the technical skills are what employers are looking for. The way to educate people about tech according to Mercy are newsletters, podcasts, you-tube series and techies spotlights.
Mercy Ajiboye- Words on Marble
Mercy has a pushing force that keeps her going just like other techies. “Never admit failure until you have made your last attempt, never make your last attempt until you have succeeded”; that is her mantra. Mercy pictures herself in five years as a prominent figure helping females transition into tech. Mercy is a techie but she has another side of amazement. She can perform well in human resources and people operations management.
Does Mercy have time for personal life? Of course, time management to the rescue, she spends her free time doing what she loves. Reading, talking, and taking online courses are her top picks. Asides from that, she relaxes and re-energizes through sleeping.
In everything you do, stay hungry and never stop learning.
