Wazo Challenge East Africa, a venture bootcamp run by Hindsight Ventures, is currently accepting applications for its 2021 cohort. The program is aimed at validating and mentoring early-stage tech entrepreneurs through a 4 week-long bootcamp, expected to commence on 20th September 2021 and last till 15th October 2021. It is completely free and would be fully virtual.
Twelve startups would be selected for the program and they would be granted access to: a 4-week venture development boot camp with group facilitated workshops and 1-on-1 mentoring, $150,000 each of technology credits from the program’s partners, interactions with a pool of global mentors (successful entrepreneurs, domain experts, industry experts, and investors), competing for a grant money pool, participation/showcase at the East Africa Corporate Innovation Summit on 29th Oct 2021 and pitching at the East Africa Corporate Innovation Summit 2021 to investors interested in tech startups from East Africa.
Hindsight Ventures, an accelerator dedicated to early-stage tech startups, also runs the East Africa Fintech Bootcamp and the Founder Development Bootcamp along with the aforementioned Wazo Challenge East Africa. The accelerator is the Africa-focused vertical of Startup Réseau. The top three winners for the Wazo Challenge Tanzania, the pioneer version of the program were MipangoApp, MedPack Tanzania, Kikoba App.
The criteria for selection include social and community impact (25%), uniqueness of the idea (20%), innovation (15%), market feasibility (10%), market opportunity(10%), a minimum team of 3 people(10%), being Tanzanian nationals in the age group of 18 – 30 years (5%) and incorporation within the immediate past eighteen months(5%). If you’re a tech entrepreneur from Eastern Africa, building a product/solution in either financial services, healthcare, education, utilities, or education, you are strongly encouraged to apply here for the Wazo Challenge East Africa.
