Nigerian Angel investor, Olumide Soyombo, has announced the launch of a venture capital firm, Voltron Capital with co-founder, Abe Choi, founder of Simple Dealer. Olumide Soyombo is a well-known angel investor in the African tech startup ecosystem. Abe Choi is a U.S.-based entrepreneur and investor.
Olumide Soyombo had decided to venture into tech, which was still relatively new then in Nigeria, with his co-founder of Bluechip Technologies, Kazeem Tewogbade in 2014 and began investing in startups via LeadPath, an early-stage firm with plans to run similarly as Y Combinator. LeadPath became a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) due to the accelerator model not working out as planned.
Olumide Soyombo sees his job as someone bridging the gap of angel investing between his corporate friends and colleagues who have not typically invested in tech and startups that need their money. He has invested in startups like Pushcv.com, Paystack, Piggybank.ng, Fashpa, Mono, TeamApt, Spleet, The Gradient Boost, etc.

Voltron Capital is on a mission to back extraordinary entrepreneurs out of Africa solving important problems in large markets. The firm will invest at the pre-seed and seed stage, helping them optimize the returns per startup invested in. The ticket sizes will range from $20,000 to $100,000 with a focus on startups in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and North Africa.
