The Lagos State Government has plans to deploy Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices to capture traffic offenders, reduce traffic gridlocks and unmask crimes committed in traffic and their perpetrators. The handheld device to be deployed can capture video and picture evidence of traffic violations in real-time.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, described the TMS as a traffic law compliance initiative. “The innovation will aid the eradication of fine-payment controversy between traffic law enforcement officers and violators, as only electronic payment guarantee the clearance of a violation from the violators’ list”, he said. The innovation will help electronic verification of the authenticity of driving licenses, vehicle licenses and number plates, which will significantly assist in achieving the goal of clamp down on motorists with fake licenses and number plates, the commissioner further said.
The TMS devices is an innovation in line with the Smart City status of Lagos State and its government in a move to address the problems facing Nigeria’s commercial capital.
I wonder though, will this be an end to crimes purported in traffic? Will this solution be adequately used by affected stakeholders?
