Nigerian-Based Healthtech, HelpMum has been announced as the winner of the Waislitz Global Citizen COVID-19 Response Award and would receive 50,000 dollars as part of winning the award.
The Waistlitz Global Citizen Awards are annual cash prizes totalling $250,000 that recognize the excellence of individuals in their work to end extreme poverty. The Waislitz Foundation exists to create a positive impact locally and globally through innovative projects that empower individuals to meet their full potential and make a measurable difference to the world.
“Winning the award will help us at Helpmum scale our solutions- especially those we developed during COVID, help accelerate the impact we’ve had so far, and save more lives in remote communities. We are extremely grateful for this support from Global Citizen, Waislitz Foundation and Mesoblast,” said the CEO of HelpMum, Dr Abiodun Adereni.
HelpMum had also emerged among the winners of the 2020 Facebook Community Accelerator Programme.

HelpMum is a social enterprise birthed with the mission to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Nigeria. The healthtech is on a mission to eradicate infant and maternal mortality in Nigeria through the distribution of affordable Clean Birth Kits to pregnant women in deprived and underserved communities, registration of mothers on our vaccination tracking system, training of community birth attendants using our E-learning platform, and complete renovation of the highly unhygienic and deteriorated state of community birth attendant homes. HelpMum has raised a total of $350,000 in funding over one round, which was raised on November 29, 2018.
