Spleet, a Nigerian-Based home rental startup has been selected as one of the participants in MetaProp’s 2021 Accelerator program at Columbia University. The proptech is the first African startup to join the Accelerator program.
The Accelerator is a 22-week program focused on driving business growth and accelerated market penetration. Some of the program benefits include up to $250,000 in the financing, curated access and introductions to industry decision-makers, technology pilots, premier sources investment capital and international media, access to consortium program partners as well as free goods and services valued at over $200,000, etc. The Accelerator Program helps sponsor new Proptech startups and provides advisory services to more established, traditional companies looking to expand their know-how in the world of real estate tech.
Zach Aarons, the co-founder of MetaProp, said: “We as a firm are really excited about the burgeoning proptech industry in Nigeria. There is a huge Nigerian diaspora population here in New York, where the accelerator program is. So, it’s a really good way for Spleet, which is primarily focused on the African market, to interact with a lot of the global real estate and capital market players that are based here.”

Akintola Adesanmi, Spleet’s CEO said: “Over the last three years, we’ve worked very hard at Spleet to hack a highly valuable but hard to crack segment of Africa’s real estate market. Our goal is to power hassle-free rentals, for our landlords and tenants, and bridge the trust issues that currently exist between both parties. We are expanding to Ghana and Kenya, and are looking to other African markets. All these haven’t been easy, and has meant tapping into every available resource.” He believes that joining the accelerator is a catalyst towards achieving Spleet’s goals and further driving its value proposition as well as opening up new opportunities for the growing proptech startup ecosystem in West Africa.
Spleet is a subscription-based living solution that provides access to shared/ entire living spaces with flexible payment options (daily, monthly & quarterly subscriptions). Its platform partners with homeowners who want to earn constant and recurring revenue and homeowners who want to earn non-recurring revenue (daily subscriptions). Spleet recently announced it’s being a finalist for West Africa for Startup Day by Africa Proptech Forum. The startup has raised a total of $260k in a pre-seed round funded by Olumide Soyombo.
